Amanda
Amanda was one of the nicest students I ever had. She always had a smile, was always on time, and always laughed at my jokes. Amanda was very personable, mature, and had a great sense of humor. She was diligent and worked fairly but still had an average playing ability. Things didn’t come easy for her and she didn’t have the best situation. Her parents couldn’t afford the high profile private teachers in the area so she studied with a mediocre one. To this day, I’m not sure if that helped or hindered.
I left that school when she was a sophomore to do my master’s degree. She kept in touch with occasional emails.
A few years later she emails me to let me know she’s going for her undergraduate degree in music education! I couldn’t believe it! Not that she couldn’t do it, it’s just that I didn’t picture her pursuing music. But it turned out she grew more and more into music, her violin, and teaching.
She ended up being a high school orchestra teacher! Go Amanda!
I heard from her again and she was now looking into graduate programs to continue her music studies – wow! You just never know.
