Here is a collection of questions I’ve asked interviewers.

What is the size of the orchestra / music department and the percentage of student participation?
What is the daily schedule for lessons / rehearsals, etc.?
What is the concert schedule like?
Does your department stress the process or product?
What is the school/department doing to meet the standards? (somewhat of a moot question these days)
What is the grading procedure/ format for orchestra? ie. On report card, paper insert, A-F or pass/fail, PowerSchool, etc.
What is the department’s recruitment process?
What non-music duties are part of the position? (think hall or bus duty)
What role does fundraising play in your program.
What role do extra-curricular activities play.
What festivals / competitions does this school participate in?
Do the different areas (band, orch., chorus) work together?
Are students allowed to miss class for lessons? How well does this work here?
Does the community support the arts?
Are there performance opportunities is the area?
Tell me about the teachers union.
