High School 1996
High School Music Department
Classroom Expectations – Orchestra
In order to facilitate a smooth running classroom, it is necessary to have a few simple rules:
1. Students are expected to be in their seats with their instruments and music by 8:06 am. Students arriving late will be asked to get a late slip from Mrs. Covey in the office. Three late slips will result in a referral.
2. Students will be responsible for their own instruments. If you own your own instrument, you are expected to provide all accessories except in the case of an emergency. If you play a school owned instrument, some but not all accessories will be provided by the school.
3. Music and folders will be issued to each student. It is your responsibility to bring these materials to class every day.
4. During class, students will sit quietly and there will be no unsolicited talking or playing of instruments.
5. Students will be issued a school lock for your instrument locker, located in the hallway outside the auditorium. Keep your locker locked at all times, even when you are in rehearsal or a lesson.
6. Students will treat everyone in the classroom with respect.
7. All students are expected to participate in all classroom activities.
8. Students will be released from class 2 minutes before the end of the period. This is plenty of time to put your stuff away.
9. Students are not to go into the main corridor of the school until the bell rings.
10. Students are expected to practice their instruments daily, so they may successfully perform all assigned music in orchestra and lessons.
11. Students are expected to put forth their best effort with and hand in all assigned written projects.
12. All written assignments must be turned in. Failure to do so will result in an unsatisfactory for the quarter.
13. Students will show respect for all equipment and school property.
14. Students are expected to participate in all orchestra functions. Failure to do so may result in an unsatisfactory for the quarter
15. Students will bring a pencil to class with them everyday. Keep two in your folder.
16. String players will be wearing black dress pants ( NO JEANS ) for guys or black dress pants ( NO JEANS ) / dress for ladies and a white shirt for concerts. Guys must also wear a black bow tie. Please acquire the appropriate dress clothes BEFORE the first concert.
17. Lesson attendance is mandatory. Lessons are part of the orchestra credit and must be made up if missed. Three or more unexcused absences will result in an Unsatisfactory for the quarter. Missed lessons MUST be made up within 2 weeks of the absence. Remember that I am only in the building one day a week and try to schedule accordingly. If scheduling is a problem, see me!
18. Thank you! If at anytime you are having difficulties or need help, please see me. Remember -
it’s not my orchestra it’s OUR orchestra and I’m here to help.
