If you organize a lot of PDF or similar files, check out Paperless from Mariner Software. It’s a great way to organize digital sheet music, receipts, etc. and is currently on sale.

Karl Paulnack Welcome Address

An excerpt from a welcome address given to parents of incoming students at The Boston Conservatory on September 1, 2004, by Dr. Karl Paulnack, director of the Music Division.

Tragedy struck Thursday in the first of two sold-out Andrew Bird concerts at the opulent Civic Opera House. Bird’s musical weapon of choice – his violin — was mortally wounded when it slipped from his hands near the end of the show, crashed to the stage and cracked in two.

I play some jazz guitar and was looking for a chord reference. After going through several applications I found Guitarist’s Reference. It’s a little slow to load but it very complete and feature rich!

Check out Bass Guitar Blog.

It’s similar to MostlyBass or DoubleBassBlog but with the focus being on bass guitars.

Alright maybe insane isn’t the right word. But, wow!

The Chadwick Folding Bass

A truly portable bass! It’s a plywood design and definitely geared toward the traveling / gigging jazzer (or other pizzicato genre). Interesting!

Here’s a video of the instrument being folded.

This is an update of an older post
_________

The title of this blog is MostlyBass. Back in the late 1990s I was trying to find a good ‘dot com’ name. A friend asked, “What’s your site about?”. I replied, “Well, mostly about the bass.” “There you go!”

So, this post is not necessarily about the bass.

I’m a bit of a productivity addict – I like to play the bass, write, do photography, blog, exercise, be frugal, and oh yeah – have a full time teaching job. To help with all that and more, here are some of my favorite tools / software / books / randomness. (Click here to read the rest of this entry)

Check out Jason Heath’s interview with Mark Morton.

I’ve took a lesson with Mark and have had many great bass conversations – he even contributed to my book, ‘An Introduction to Double Bass Playing‘.

Here’s a GREAT article by Rachel Barton Pine:

Check out HassleMe, a website that will send you reminders you set up at somewhat random intervals.

I received an email from Michael Drost – he has arranged “Don’t Stop Believin’” by Journey for bass quartet.

Go to his website and then click Projects. For some reason a direct link isn’t working.
