An Introduction to Double Bass Playing
"An Introduction to Double Bass Playing" is the culmination of over a decade of playing, teaching, studying, and practicing. It addresses many aspects of double bass playing and pedagogy including exercises, examples, and fingerings that teachers have used over the years but never written down. It's a great resource for teachers, students, education majors, music minors, parents and anyone interested in the double bass. It is a wonderful companion for studio classes and private lessons. The Double Bassist (now The Strad) says it is "...full of sound and useful advice."

Pomp and Circumstance
A simple arrangement of Elgar's Pomp and Circumstance for middle school orchestra.
An arrangement of Bottesini's Elegy for bass and string orchestra. There are two arrangements included - one simpler than the other. They are designed to be played by a middle or high school orchestra or string quartet. I have performed this with my middle school orchestra and it works well!
This is the accompaniment to Lorenziti's Gavotte in orchestral tuning. The zip file includes both the accompaniment and bass part in pdf and .ps formats
A composition I wrote featuring the melodies of Suzuki Book 1. It is a medley in a fiddling type style. I thought that since most string students study these tunes it would be fun to play them with a twist in a group setting. And since students do play them, the ensemble's intonation should be better as the melodies are already in their ears. You will receive a ZIP file with the parts and score. Copy the parts as needed!

String Fingerboard Charts
This is a ZIP file of six PDF files. There are fingerboard diagrams for violin, viola / cello, and double bass. Each come in both vertical and horizontal orientation. -Only natural notes are written. Lines are drawn where we usually put tapes on. They end at 4th finger / fourth position.
This is an arrangement of Koussekitzky's Valse Miniature for bass and string ensemble. The bass part is the same I just 'exploded' the piano part for strings. It is playable by string quartet, quintet, or orchestra in middle school or later.
A banner of the order of flats and sharps. I tried having two banners for each but students found it confusing. So here is a banner where they can just read it from the appropriate side and with a single flat and sharp they know which side to use. The banner it 60" x 6", made of durable vinyl and has 6 brass grommets for hanging.
The first studio release from Jungle of Cities. The Chicago-based ensemble plays original music rooted in traditional electric/acoustic folk, pressed with a cinematic feel and delivered with lyrics drawn from today's headlines.
Influenced by music from Roots Americana and Blues-Rock, but our influences are as much literary as musical as we pay homage to Ginsberg, Ferlingetti, Bruce, Orwell and Stephen Vincent Benet.
5 bucks gets you 6 cool new tracks. The ZIP file contains the MP3 encoded at 320 as well as some Jungle of Cities artwork.
