Can't do this with the iPhone -Battery life. A tuner / metronome with AAA or AA batteries last much longer than the iPhone. That being said it is great to have the tools with you at all times - as in the iPhone apps. It is a great tool but I do like having separate devices for a few reasons.

I think the mobile could eventually take the place of all the traditional practice partners (metronome, tuner, recorder, music player).
