I’m looking to use my skills in the field of personal coaching.
As a music teacher, much of my job is basically personally coaching. During a rehearsal, I organize, analyze and review data. Then I decide what to do with that data, if anything.
In rehearsals, lessons, meetings, and throughout the day knowing what to discard, what to keep, what to pursue, what to modify and what to leave alone are skills I have honed over my years as an educator.
These are skills that can be applied to any area of life.
If you feel your life is out of control or your time management abilities could use some sharpening, I can help!

I seem to be wasting my time reading, and posting to, blogs from music teachers…
Is there hope for me?
I can only do so much… but I can start a MostlyBass support group!
I was born out of control.
To, and off, your point: How much time would you estimate that you personally spend preparing for your in-school classes away from the job (not including private instruction)? Do you have a set planning period after work?
This is an odd question as it varies a lot. My largest planning time is for rehearsal – which I have at 7:15am. So I spend my 1/2 commute thinking about where we’ve been, where we are, and where we want to go. I then translate that into a daily plan that puts on the chalkboard (now a SmartBoard) for the students to see.
For lessons, I have designed my assessment instrument to have the next lesson’s plan built into to it. This makes it known to me and the student before the lesson and saves me time.
Teachers do get planning time during the school day.
So, In the past I’ve spent hours creating and honing documents and plans that are almost self creating.
My current project is a giant orchestral timeline of the year that I somehow want to manage to make into a bulletin board for the kids to see.
Bottom line, now I don’t have to spend as much time as I did when I first started teaching. I also spend much of August planning and outlining. I create my theory handouts, scale sheets, and music during the end of the school and before school starts so that during the school much time is saved and less planning is needed.
