I received a Tascam DP-004 digital 4-track for christmas.

Initial reactions:

Decent manual
Includes 1gb SD card
Wow, this thing is powerful!
Great mix of digital and analog controls
Very good sound quality
Size is perfect

Solid build quality
Built in mics are impressive
Good battery life on 4AA (I didn’t get the power adapter)

Screen needs to be brighter
SD card location sucks – in the battery compartment
I’d like an XLR input
It didn’t like one of my cheap SD cards

  1. I saw a funny tool to help people learn music, here is:
    Funny Virtual Piano Software

  2. Chris Strough

Have you played with the USB port yet?
Looks like a good tool to monitor your practice/jam sessions, and then dump the ideas that you like to your computer. (I would imagine that its size would allow it to sit on top of your amp pretty comfortably).

  3. I have and it works great as you suggest. For jam sessions I have a Tascam Dr-1 which is a little easier for single track quick, live recordings.
